Who we are

About Straight Up Psychology

A psychology practice built on honesty, clarity, and the belief that understanding where you've been helps you choose where you're going.

Our Philosophy

The Burning Fuse

The name "Straight Up" means exactly what it sounds like — we're direct, honest, and we don't dress things up. But our approach is built around a simple analogy that changes how people see their own story.

Think of your life as a burning fuse. Your parents lit it the moment you were born. Everything behind the flame — the ash — is your past. It's real, it shaped you, and it matters. Sometimes looking into it and making sense of it really does help.

The flame itself is the present moment. The only place where anything actually happens. Where you breathe, decide, and act.

And ahead of the flame? The unburned fuse — your future. Not one fixed path, but many potential directions. Our work is about helping you use your knowledge of the past and your awareness of the present to determine the direction of your future.

What we stand for

How we show up for you

Straight up honesty

No jargon, no performance. We tell you what we see and work with you on what's real — not what's comfortable.

The present is the point

The flame is burning right now. We focus on what you can actually do today, not just what happened before.

Your future, your direction

We don't tell you where to go. We help you figure out where you want to go — and how to get there.

No shame, no judgment

Whatever brought you here, you're welcome. The ash behind the flame is just context — it doesn't define you.

Our Approach

Evidence-based. Straight talking. Human.

We draw on evidence-based therapies — including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and trauma-informed approaches — but we don't hide behind the acronyms.

Every session is a conversation. We listen, we're honest about what we see, and we work with you to find approaches that actually fit your life — not a textbook version of it.

We work with adults navigating anxiety, stress, trauma, burnout, and major life transitions. If you're not sure whether we're the right fit, reach out — we'll tell you straight.
