Can I get a letter or report?


Yes, we can write a letter or report covering your situation. These may be required for employers, school, insurers, court or other purposes. Additional charges apply to these reports and they are not covered by Medicare. The cost will depend on the purpose and content of the report.


Referring GP


Psychologists are required to provide a written report to the referring medical practitioner (GP) following the first six psychological sessions or at the completion of a clients’ treatment.

Following the first six sessions, the client may be reviewed by the referring GP to determine whether the second set of four psychological services is required.

The amount of detail to be provided in the report is not specifically mandated, however Medicare Australia guidelines state the report should include information about:

  • any assessments carried out
  • any treatment provided
  • any recommendations on future management of the client’s disorder


There is no charge for these reports


Third Parties


Reports can be provided to third parties, for example …. with the written consent of the client or the client’s legal representative.

Reports can also be provided to meet the requirements of Workcover, Medicare and the legal system.

These reports generally include:

  • patient History
  • presenting problems and contributing factors
  • the appropriateness of current treatment(s)
  • any perceived barriers to recovery and/or return to work
  • recommendations


These reports are not covered by Medicare and additional charges apply.

The cost for preparation of a report will depend on the purpose and content and may range from $150 to $560.

These reports are charged at the AAPi recommended rate.
